Construction of the first metro in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City, with an investment of over VND17.3 trillion, began on August 28.
Of the investment, 83% are sourced from the Japanese government’s ODA.
The Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien route has a total length of 19.7km, including 2.6 km going underground with 3 depots, and 17.1 km going elevated with 11 depots.
It is designed to run through the districts of 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc in Ho Chi Minh City and Di An District in Binh Duong Province.
The construction is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and become operational in 2018. The route will become a backbone of the city’s urban passenger transport, catering for some 526,000 passengers a day.
