With an investment of 38.5 billions of VND, by the end of 2006, IBST will own a wind load test laboratory that will serve the scientific research activities of the Institute. This is the first wind load test laboratory in Vietnam.
The building that houses the wind tunnel was completed in 2004 and the wind tunnel has been being installed for a few months. If the construction schedule is performed as expected, by the end of July 2006, the installation of wind tunnel will be completed.
The laboratory consists of a Closed Circuit Wind Tunnel in the vertical direction that is completely housed in the space of the building with the dimensions of the width, the length and the height of 8m, 35m and 9m, respectively.
The wind tunnel has a big capacity blowers system that consists of a motor and a remote control to generate a blowing flow with a velocity varied continuously from 0 to minimum of 12m/s at the big rotatory table.
The wind tunnel of IBST wind load test laboratory can perform the tests as follows:
+ If the small rotatory table is used, the following types of structures can be tested: high - rise buildings, low - rise buildings, television towers, antenna masts, electric poles, silos, chimneys/stacks,..
+ If the big rotatory table is used, the following types of structures can be tested: large - span bridges, stadium roofs, station's roof,..
The design and installation and test run of the wind tunnel are done by Australian consulting experts. The wind tunnel is of the advanced type of the world. The blower is made in the USA.
